The Term ‘Spaghetti Western’

This is a small blurb that I just found out recently. So Spaghetti Westerns are movies set in the American fictional style of the wild west, but filmed in Italy by Italians. Hence the ‘spaghetti’ part.

I always heard of spaghetti westerns, but never really understood what it had to do with spaghetti. I figure it’s some sort of play on words on an ‘old fashioned’ style spaghetti thematically inspired by the West or some bourbon adjacent joke. Maybe it had something to do with the dust balls looking like spaghetti yarn balls or something.

Turns out, it’s called ‘Spaghetti’ because it’s an Italian Depiction of the Wild West.

Epilogue

Just sharing a small blurb at something I found out earlier in the week.

I find it interesting, you know, we use words as placeholders and labels and they definitely mean things. I just never thought to question the ‘spaghetti’ word in ‘spaghetti western’. Turns out, it has a reason for being called spaghetti, and it means something.

Wow, who would’ve thunk that if I questioned a word and pulled it’s origins out, I would find out that;

Words Mean Things

P.S.

I’m shifting gears a bit, and I am trying to push out more content for the written side of the house. So the quality of posts will vary from small like this, to musings, to large notes to essays. It’s as eclectic in variety as my interests are.
