On being Eccentric

Often times we use the word Eccentric to describe people with weird tastes or eclectic tastes in a variety of obscure or clandestine things. Like a person that collects owl statues, or someone who has a stack of vintage mold collections from 1970s. Something odd and peculiar in taste.

Eccentric, relates to the Center.

To be eccentric is to be ‘off center’. Prefix ‘ec’ from Hellenistic Greek meaning ‘out of’.

So the idea of ‘normalcy’ for what is common and common place is the ‘target’ of the center.

To be too normal and to be one with the crowd is to enable the hivemind of personality that goes like a robot (NPC), a cookie cutter archetype, like a typical class clown or similar multi cultural experiences in non-diverse schools like tokenism and such. Archetypes are just paths curved and carved through various choices paved in the way, the dao, of life. The more people walk it, the more a path appears.

The idea of normal is just that, an Idea.

Those who break the mold to go far and pursue their interests or passions or are bold enough to be daring to do the dumb thing or get a tattoo or break away from the sheeple of normal, these are the eccentric types.

To not fill the conformity of mold that society brings.

Often times the counter culture of culture becomes mainstream itself and becomes the new norm. People becoming anti-anything out of fad or a phase rather than a symbolic gesture of their soul or spirit or their great life’s work. -And as the anti-culture develops, the anti-anti-culture develops to counteract that to balance things in equilibrium. The yin, the yang.

Often time you’ll find people with wealth or resources pursue eccentric things, that is mainly due to their socio-economic status enabling them to be an eccentric existences. Because they hold something that is not of the norm, their normalcy is changed as such. Those who are above the norm, below the norm, the left of the norm, or the right of the norm, have to adapt to what their subjective version of ‘norm’ is.

So people with money or resources can splurge on hyper fixated dreams of grandeur, to commit oddities and quirks, and even more taboo ideations for better or worse.

Like wise, people in poverty learn to make due with less and survival mechanisms allow for the invention of different sorts of oddities, like tuna with hot sauce.

Epilogue

Overall life is that which ebb’s and flows.

I’m merely crafting this article, this brick, so that you may have greater authority over the single use word of ‘eccentric’ and it’s ‘eccentricity’.

A single word that means multiple things, yet can be defined to also mean one thing in peculiar.
