This one will be short,
The origin and root for Philosophy comes from Hellenic or Greek Philosophia. The Word Philosophy comes from Philo- Meaning ‘love’ or rather ‘infatuated with’ and ‘Sophy’ Meaning ‘Wisdom’.
Philosophy means the love of wisdom. A genuine curiosity, to want to learn more and know more and to learn why, how, what, where, and more dimensions and facets of things and truth.
So, if you embody the ‘genius mindset’ of wanting to learn more or know more, then you have in you the love for wisdom.
And I caution that there are some garnets of wisdom that are dis-settling. If you attain a wisdom that you cannot integrate or fail to do so, then you create micro-schisms in you. For instance, those that learn about the horrors of factory farming may reject the idea of meat to the degree that they reject eating all meat.
This is the same as erecting a large wall between the part of people that want to eat meat and the part of people that wants to not harm animals in the brutal systemic way.
And when we erect walls, we cast large shadows. Our Shadow in Jungian Terms grows with the more distinctions and dichotomies that we build. The more we try to define ourselves, the more we limit ourselves in a way- for better or for worse. Limiting ourselves may not always be in our interest, yet sometimes we have to focus, so there’s good and bad in it.
And so the truth may be too big to bear or swallow, creating walls in our psyche or ego, resulting in schisms and shadows, which may also exacerbate and result in other mental effects such as split personalities or schizophrenia.
My opinion to safely confront truth is to proceed with caution while having a firm basis on what you perceive reality to be. If your foundation is solid and you are ‘grounded’ in a specific reality, then you would be able to wrestle with higher and higher concepts as you attain higher and higher wisdoms.
As Jung would say “beware of Unearned Wisdom”
Epilogue,
This was a few small thoughts on the word philosophy that I wanted to share, I also incorporated a cautious bit about the shadow and how the shadow grows.
Hopefully this is helpful for you, dear reader.
I intend to do more shadow work, as I seem to have a calling in that direction and I will pursue it.
